The initiative’s main objective is to mobilize partnerships and industry champions to implement and scale circular economy solutions.
Key stakeholders from supply and demand sides are brought together in Action Tracks around specific value chains, develop solutions in facilitated workshops and collaborate on their implementation.

Built environment has been selected as the focus sector for the first Action Track, as it is the largest demand industry for the four hard-to-abate materials and the largest source of waste generated.
Built environment has traditionally been challenging to decarbonize, given its complex stakeholder landscape, fragmented supply chains and long life cycles.
Transportation is the second-largest demand sector for the four focus materials. Under a business as usual scenario, by 2040 roughly 60% of total automotive lifecycle emissions will be directly attributable to materials.
However, the systems-wide change needed to create circularity in the automotive sector and decarbonize these non-use phase emissions is possible and requires only little added vehicle material cost as shown below.
